SHORT TOUR OF THE BOOKSTORE

The Reed College Bookstore is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the academic needs of the Reed community. It is located on the lower level of the Gray Campus Center.

Textbooks: One of our main functions is to provide the course materials needed for your classes. We attempt to provide as many used textbooks as possible. The bookstore acquires used books through our year-round buyback and by aggressively searching for used books through wholesale book companies all over the country. Used books cost 25% less than new books. Should we run out of a textbook during the first two weeks of the semester, we rush order it at our own expense to get into your hands within 2-4 days. During buyback the bookstore will pay you roughly 50% of the new price (even if you bought it used) for books needed in the following semester and wholesale price for books not re-ordered by our professors. If you want to purchase your textbooks early, you can do so at our website ( http://bookstore.reed.edu ).

General Books: The bookstore also features a varied and in-depth selection of trade books which supports and expands upon topics presented in the Reed curriculum. From the latest in fiction, to the classics, to gender studies, you will find a wonderful assortment of general reading material. We are extending a 10% discount on all general books. The bookstore will gladly special order any book in print if we do not have it in stock. The 10% discount applies to special orders and we do not charge a fee for regular shipping. If you are in a hurry to put your hands on your special order title, express service is available for a nominal fee.

And if you are behind with your laundry, we sell all kinds of sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, tights, and shorts bearing the Reed logo. Student Charge Accounts: One of the bookstore services which has proven to greatly simplify student life is a bookstore account. We ask for a one-time-only set-up fee of $20.00. Thereafter, the student need only present his/her student ID to the cashier when making purchases. The student charge account can be used both in the bookstore and in our nightly convenience store. Monthly statements which summarize each purchase are issued, but detailed copies of the charges (which items have actually been bought) are not mailed with the statement. If a parent would like to see what items were bought, we encourage the student to send copies of their receipts to the parent (students are required to have their receipts for returns or exchanges).
