SHORT TOUR OF THE BOOKSTORE

The Reed College Bookstore is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the academic needs of the Reed community. It is located on the lower level of the Gray Campus Center.

Textbooks: One of the bookstore's main functions is providing students course material at a reasonable price. We lower prices through aggressive used book buying from many national wholesalers as well as online sources. Used books are priced at least 25% below the cost of a new book, and where we are able at deeper discounts. Online ordering of textbooks is available through our website. We provide free rush shipping for any course books not available during the first two weeks of class, and most are available for purchase within 2 to 4 days. At the end of the semester we offer a book buyback - we will pay roughly 20-40% of the new price of the book (even if you bought it used) for books needed at Reed, and the market price of the book for any book not re-ordered by our faculty.

General Books: The bookstore also features a varied and in-depth selection of general (or "trade") books which supports and expands upon topics presented in the Reed curriculum. From the latest in fiction, to the classics, to gender studies, you will find a wide assortment of general reading material. The bookstore will gladly special order any book in print if we do not have it in stock. If you are in a hurry to put your hands on your special order title, express service is available for a nominal fee.

General Merchandise, Clothing, Gifts: Students can obtain college-life essentials such as drinks, good food & junk food, tech accessories, and school supplies.  Other items we carry include desk lamps, bicycle and computer locks, backpacks & greeting cards, gift wrap, some over-the-counter medications, and personal care items. And if you are behind with your laundry, we sell all kinds of sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, tights, and shorts bearing the Reed logo.

Student Charge Accounts: One of the bookstore services which has proven to greatly simplify student life is a bookstore account; the student need only present his/her student ID to the cashier when making purchases. The student charge account can be used both in the bookstore and in our nightly convenience store. Monthly statements which summarize each purchase are issued, but detailed copies of the charges (which items have actually been bought) are not mailed with the statement. If a parent would like to see what items were bought, we encourage the student to send copies of their receipts to the parent (students are required to have their receipts for returns or exchanges).

Homer's Hut: For Late Night Reedies there is Homer's Hut, our on-campus convenience store. It is open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. when classes are in session and provides you with a wide variety of healthy snacks, frozen foods, drinks, plain old junk food as well as a basic selection of dorm supplies and personal care items.
